Barclay Apartments

SITE 
Barclay Apartments is a four-building complex built on 2.5 acres, between Bradley Boulevard and Chevy Chase Drive near Wisconsin Avenue. The 155 apartments comprise 41 two-bedroom units, 90 one-bedrooms, and 24 studio units. 

PROGRAM
In conjunction with the interior designer, the Housing Opportunities Commission, and other consultants, we conducted a careful evaluation of the project's physical, safety, and accessibility needs. Together we devised a program of repairs and upgrades intended bring the 50+ year old structures up to date with today's technology.

SOLUTION
The renovation included the addition of new multipurpose and physical fitness areas, as well as seven new handicapped-accessible units. Infrastructure improvements include new electrical and potable water lines, new heat pumps and a new fire suppression system. New landscape features such as picnic areas and plantings provide a comfortable living setting.

Existing apartment units were completely refurbished. Updated finishes, which helped to create open and airy living environments, include replacement of carpets, new paneled doors, painting and new lighting throughout. Kitchens were expanded, cabinetry was updated and bathroom fixtures, flooring and tiling were replaced.
